Dean Hand is the Chief Research Officer at the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN). She brings over 10 years of experience in emerging market impact investing, including work on blended finance tools, impact fund development, and measurement strategies. Before joining GIIN, she was part of the Impact Investing team at Ashburton Investments. Dean also lectures on impact investing, most recently to MBA students at the University of Pretoria. She holds a Master’s in Philosophy (Inclusive Innovation) from the University of Cape Town, awarded with distinction, and is a Bertha Scholar for her work in impact investing and innovative finance.

Kate Walsh
Director of Training at the GIIN

Kate Walsh is the Director of Training at the GIIN, where she leads efforts to expand impact investing education worldwide. She has dedicated her career to building networks that support sustainable finance and impact measurement. Before joining GIIN, she worked at Investor Advocates for Social Justice, focusing on issues like food sustainability, financial reform, and labor rights. She also served on the board of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility and previously managed programme evaluation at the Entertainment Community Fund. Kate holds a Master’s in Public Administration from NYU and a BS in Management & Politics from Fairfield University.
