I personally think that HSE can be fundamentally seen as a subset of ESG, courtesy of the fundamentals of ESG course I just completed. As a HSE professional, I think Environmental Social and Governance levers can be used to meet HSE objectives in the long term.

You make a valid point linking HSE to ESG, and it’s true that many organisations now integrate HSE metrics into ESG reporting. That said, in practice, ESG goes beyond operational safety and environmental compliance, it also encompasses governance structures, stakeholder engagement, and social impact that may not always overlap directly with traditional HSE objectives. Bridging HSE with the broader ESG agenda can be powerful, but it requires aligning operational metrics with strategic ESG goals to show tangible long-term impact.
