While GRI is fantastic for telling the full sustainability story, SASB provides the crucial link to financial performance. SASB standards are industry-specific and focus on the ESG issues that are financially material to a business. For a technology-based service like me, this would mean disclosing information on topics like data privacy and security, as these directly impact my business's value and risks. By using both GRI and SASB, I can provide a complete picture: one that's transparent about my broad impact and also speaks directly to the interests of my financial stakeholders.
