Some questions could not be addressed during the Q&A session. Kishore has kindly provided his responses, which you will find below:

1. How can leaders ensure that DE&I becomes a core part of their company culture, rather than just a compliance requirement?
  • Firstly, identify DE&I issues that are material and relatable or meaningful to employees as well as other critical stakeholders of the organisation e.g. top spend suppliers.
  • Raise awareness on DE&I principles and policy through structured and targeted engagement sessions
  • Integrate DE&I principles into key contracts that bind employees and suppliers
  • Strengthen DE&I policy by defining a clear approach, focus areas – based on material DE&I issues for the organization/sector, and measures.
  • Reinforce and celebrate progress
2. What are some practical, low-cost ways for startups or solo entrepreneurs to start a sustainable business? Should it start with a business model or focus on operational efficiency?
  • Ensure such entrepreneurs understand the basics of sustainable business – Efficiency and Equity being two critical and fundamental principles
  • Explore if there are environmental, social, governance aspects that can potentially contribute to economic success or people performance, integrate them into the business model
  • In short, it starts with the idea of shaping a business that highest levels of accountability and integrity
